© 2015, Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht. Deontology and utilitarianism are two competing principles that guide our moral judgment. Recently, deontology is thought to be intuitive and is based on an error-prone and biased approach, whereas utilitarianism is relatively reflective and a suitable framework for making decision. In this research, the authors explored the relationship among moral identity, moral decision, and moral behavior to see how a preference for the deontological solution can lead to moral behavior. In study 1, a Web-based survey demonstrated that when making decisions, individuals who viewed themselves as moral people preferred deontological ideals to the utilitarian framework. In study 2, the authors investigated the effect of moral identity and moral decision on moral behavior in an experimental study. The results showed that when deontology was coupled with the motivational power of moral identity, individuals were most likely to behave morally.Date

Entre el naturalismo y la normatividad: los dilemas bioéticos bajo el scannerZavadivker, María Natalia (DIALNET OAI ArticlesCentro de Estudios Académicos en Neuropsicología, 2014)This article seeks to investigate to what extent the resulting empirical data from various experiments in Moral Psychology (some behavioral, others based on evidence from neuroimaging and in patients with brain lesions associated with moral competence areas) , can contribute to a better understanding of the psychological processes (cognitive and emotional) underlying to our moral practical judgments, helping us to understand the mechanisms that influence our assessment of moral dilemmas in general and bioethics in particular. Various experiments are discussed (and the theoretical models that are supported) that reveal aspects such as the role of disgust or repugnance in the production of moral judgments, the competitive or cooperative role of emotions and cognitions in impersonal and personal moral dilemmas -and between the above mentioned, easy and difficult-, the neurophysiological bases of deontologist and consequentialist, the value attributed to the intent and the results of action, etc. The relevance of these experiments are analyzed to understand the evaluative and deliberative processes concerning various bioethical dilemmas, for which appeals to examples of conflict situations involved and our emotional resources (that activate immediate assessment ) and our higher cortical areas interact (cognitive processes responsible for slower deliberative and reflexive).

This article is the result of that project which belongs to the research line Integral training, co-existence and democracy of the masters degree in education at the Santo Tomas University. This research project is focused on setting up a proposal to increase the moral conscious ness of seventh grade students from the Agustiniano Ciudad Salitre School, and it is based on the work done by Suárez & Meza about the moral consciousness training in high school (2005). To benefit this type of education, it is necessary to establish the degree of development of the subjects morality. In order to do so, it is necessary to know the level of moral development the selected population is in, and its tendency to gain a higher level. To this purpose, the division per levels given by Laurence Kohlberg is adopted and the defining issues test by James Rest is applied. These statements also guide this research proposal that points to school environment mainly in the high school level.
