O artigo descreve os caminhos da Educação a Distância (EaD) no Brasil, em um cenário no qual esta modalidade de educação apresenta-se como uma alternativa para atender as necessidades de formação profissional em um país com grandes dimensões geográficas e sérias desigualdades regionais. Para tanto, serão apresentadas as políticas para uma EaD de qualidade, com o uso das tecnologias e a indicação de ações governamentais e institucionais que visam promover e garantir referenciais norteadores para esta modalidade educacional. Os desafios dentro de uma prática social para a EaD e os aspectos ideológicos e políticos são discutidos e contrapostos com algumas experiências já vivenciadas de EaD em iniciativas públicas brasileiras e na Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp). Diante das perspectivas apresentadas, as conclusões finais mostram que a EaD é uma modalidade educacional capaz de oferecer soluções para os problemas brasileiros desde que considerado o uso de uma abordagem que garanta a interação, o diálogo e a colaboração entre professores e alunos, o que são elementos que condicionam a natureza da aprendizagem e a construção do conhecimento. Palavras-chave Educação a distância; Políticas em educação a distância; Experiências de EaD Abstract The article describes the Distance Education (EAD) ways, in Brazil, as an alternative form of education in a huge and unequal country, where Education problems have to be solved. The EaD policies will be submitted to a high quality work, using technology and, at the same time, indicating institutional and governmental actions to promote and ensure this modality of education. The challenges within a social practice to an EaD and the ideological and political aspects are discussed and opposed with some groups, in Brazil, particularly and emphatically in São Paulo State University (Unesp). Afterwards we can conclude that with EaD it is possible to find out solutions to many of our country problems using the dialogue, promoting the interaction and collaboration among teachers and students, who are the ones that will improve the knowledge and learning. A research tool has been applied to investigate the following factors associated with the success of students in the courses: experience, interest, relevance to professional activity, organization, satisfaction and adequacy. The data collected were subjected to statistical analysis so that the association between the factors and the success of students in the courses could be evaluated. The results indicated that the organization factor was the main predictor of success, Other factors associated to the approval in the courses were the experience and the course offered in the distance mode. It is understood that the achieved results contribute to the understanding of the dropout phenomenon in higher distance courses.

Objetos de aprendizagem interativos: participação e desempenho de estudantes de ciênciasPagnossin, Ivan Ramos; Cavalcanti, Carolina Magalhães Costa; Soledade, Roberta Takahashi; Marques, Gil da Costa (2014)Due to the growing presence of digital technologies in day-to-day activities, reports of its use in education have been made in Brazil and abroad. The creation and use of increasingly interactive learning objects emerge as alternatives to the teaching materials commonly adopted in distance education such as instructional videos, texts and questionnaires. Aiming to contribute in this scenario, this work presents qualitative and quantitative results of participation and performance of students of the undergraduate blended science teaching course, that exists by a partnership between Universidade de São Paulo and Universidade Virtual do Estado de São Paulo, in the use of interactive learning objects based on situation-problems. Among other results, this work identifies a quantitative correlation between participation and evaluation, and between performance and evaluation. It also sets guidelines and strategies to promote the use and evaluation of these resources in distance learning and blended courses.
