The paper presents an overview of a range of innovative workshop materials on medical education leadership commissioned by the Higher Education Academy, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine Subject Centre in 2006. The materials were designed to provide a range of faculty development strategies for healthcare educational leadership roles in the context of a rapidly changing and complex healthcare environment. The materials offer a range of resources in a blended learning approach and provide a framework for those involved in leadership development to deliver reliable faculty development for current and aspiring leaders. The main areas covered by the materials are as follows: Introduction to leadership; leadership styles and strategies; leading in a complex environment; leading faculty development. The paper describes the process of developing the workshop materials and the importance of an increased awareness of faculty development for healthcare education leadership roles and appropriate strategies for working in this area. The authors will suggest ways of adapting the materials to a wide range of healthcare contexts in order to forward leadership roles in future healthcare educationDate
