AbstractA storyboard and outline for an M-level unit in Communication & Information Management, from the MSc International Construction Management by Distance Learning (www.bath.ac.uk/ace/icm/). This unit aims to review the construction process and the information needed to carry it out, to understand the role of communication in successful project delivery, to introduce a range of information and communication technology (ICT) applications and to provide an opportunity to reflect and apply leading-edge ICT solutions to industry based problems. The unit is taught and assessed in a way which encourages problem solving through an evolving case study and which provides students with the ability to design their own communication and information management system. The unit overview and storyboard may provide a useful resource for planning a course of study in this field or act as a guide for self-study in the subject area. The learning outcomes of the unit are as shown below: After taking this unit students should be able to: * Appreciate the importance of information to the success of construction projects; * Understand the nature of information flow during construction projects; * Be aware of the existing common problems related to communication and information management in construction; * Identify the specific relevance of these problems in their workplace; * Have knowledge of potential benefits offered by various ICT based communication and information management applications; * Propose an appropriate system that helps to overcome the existing communication and information management problems in their workplace.
