Abstract
273 realized their college had to fit into the expectations of a 1970s school of higher education. Today the faculty work with the university in new kinds of programs, innovative delivery systems, and academic exploration. In the early years the faculty often took on many roles now filled by admissions and administrative staff. Everyone did whatever had to be done, from helping to design buildings to planning commencement ceremonies, organizing the catalog, and carrying books to the new library. Now the faculty is able to focus on the instructional side of service to students. And, there is now far more to do. In teaching, more diversity in approach has been created by the split between traditional and accelerated programs, and technology has made a very significant difference, all of which increase demands on faculty. But, many faculty have indicated that what drew them to Bellevue was the opportunity to experiment pedagogically and create and teach new courses. And, members of the faculty continue to do much more than provide instruction for the degree programs. Roles have expanded within the general area of instructional concerns, and some faculty are now teaching less and are undertaking various assignments in such areas as curriculum development and program supervision. Student Changes Due perhaps to the increasing complexity of modern life, the public has come to demand additional postsecondary education.
