Abstracta) Central focus of theme: The Institute will bring together fifteen leading feminist scholars from China to explore feminist research and teaching initiatives in higher education in Canada and China. It provides a platform for involved feminist scholars to discuss the path, process, and future prospect of the development of women's studies in Canada and China. The exchange and discussion will allow both sides to further develop collaborative undertakings that would address mutual interest and learning. b) International scholarly/scientific significance: This initiative is based upon years of fruitful collaboration between feminist scholars at the University of Toronto and several major universities in China. It provides rare opportunities for cross-cultural comparison, dialogue, and mutual learning. For the China side, the academic extended network facilitates institutional capacity building and ensures success in dissemination of the results. Such event will also enhance emphasis and effort of University of Tornoto on cultural diversity in curriculum.
From July 15 - 26, 2002, a group of professors, community members and educators from the University of Toronto and various institutions of higher education from across China gathered together for an innovative Summer Institute on Feminist Pedagogy and Women's Studies curriculum development. Leading feminist scholars met at the workshops to explore feminist research and teaching initiatives for higher education in China and in Canada. The workshop is based on the years of fruitful collaboration of feminist scholars at the University of Toronto and several major universities in China.
