Discussion over governance is increasing in environmental sciences because of a greater participation of stakeholders in environmental management. Nevertheless, the concepts surrounding the debate are often overlapping or unclear. The present study aims to add cohesion to the debate by contextualizing and clarifying relevant terms and definitions. For this end, we present a literature review overview of the evolution of the research on governance in Mexico (1995-2012). By doing so, we propose a new working definition of environmental governance, distinguishing this concept from governability and government.Date
