Abstract
~Excavations on the area of the old alcacova started in 1978. They revealed part of the ancient Roman forum, with the remains of a huge gallery. On the same site, an Islamic district built during the 12th century and inhabited until the middle of the 13th century buried an early Christian baptistery (5th-6th century). After the Christian Conquest of 1238, the Islamic neighborhood was flattened and the space was turned into a cemetery. The large necropolis was used from the 14th to the 20th century.Date
