Australia's Federal government has withdrawn from some areas of human importance for which it assumed responsibility. At the same time it urges business to exercise a broader responsibility within Australian communities. This shift has manufactured a degree of uncertainty amongst stakeholder groups within business and the wider community about Australian companies' corporate citizenship practices and the changed role of Australia's government. A number of conclusions are drawn, one being that a stronger debate is required within Australia about the responsibilities of government and the responsibilities of business.engWith permission of the license/copyright holderresponsibilitycorporationsGood governancePolitical ethicsEconomic ethicsGovernance and ethicsLabour/professional ethicsThe regulatory role of governmentConference proceedings
