The founding president was Harold Kohl. In 1989 the name was changed to Asia Pacific Theological Seminary (APTS) to better demonstrate the nature of the institution. This school has had a clear regional intent as its mission: “The goal of APTS is to provide advanced leadership training and equip Pentecostal and Charismatic ministers for the Asia Pacific region. APTS offers academically sound educational programs that are sensitive to the cultural issues and needs of the Asia Pacific region while providing opportunities for students to learn through hands-on ministry experiences.”1 Specifically, the school provides training and learning opportunities to produce missionaries, theologians, educators and pastoral leaders. The students come from a variety of Asian countries and beyond.
