Abstract
"A pesar de que el acceso a la salud es un derecho en Chile, diferentes encuestas y trabajos demuestran que no todos los chilenos presentan iguales índices de salud bucal. Las poblaciones más desposeídas, rurales, pertenecientes a minorías étnicas y de mayor edad, tradicionalmente han exhibido peores cifras en los estudios realizados. Se ha comenzado a incluir la salud bucal en los planes gubernamentales mediante la cobertura GES (Garantías Explícitas de Salud) de algunas acciones o grupos específicos. También la Salud Primaria chilena tiene programas de salud bucal en sus centros de atención. Otra estrategia es fomentar el autocuidado por parte de los sujetos, pero, a pesar de todo esto, los grupos más afectados se mantienen con malas cifras. ¿Cuál es la causa de esta disparidad? ¿Por qué la salud bucal es inequitativa en Chile? En este trabajo se revisan resultados de encuestas, publicaciones y estudios sobre el tema y se concluye que un factor esencial son los determinantes sociales. Mientras estos aspectos no mejoren, es difícil que se logre una realidad más justa en salud bucal" ["Although access to health care is a right in Chile, various surveys and studies show that not all Chileans have equal rates of oral health. The most deprived populations, rural, ethnic minority and older have traditionally exhibited worst results in studies. It has started to include oral health in government plans through GES coverage (Health Explicit Guarantees) of some actions or groups. Chilean Primary Health also has oral health programs in their centers. Another strategy is to promote self-care by individuals, but despite all this, the most affected groups are maintained with bad numbers. What is the cause of this disparity? Why is oral health inequitable in Chile? Survey results, publications and studies on the subject were reviewed and the resulting conclusion is that social determinants are the essential factors. Until these issues do not improve, it is difficult to achieve a fairer reality oral health"]
