Abstract
At the 20th International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA) Congress at the University of Paris-Sorbonne (July 18 to July 24, 2013), President of the Chinese Comparative Literature Association (CCLA), Professor YANG Huilin chaired a roundtable “Scriptural Reasoning and Comparative Literature”. Around 12 scholars from universities in all parts of the world gathered and discussed intensively the theory and practice of “Scriptural Reasoning”. Many attendees were from the field of philosophy, and it was the first time for them to participate in an ICLA event. The roundtable focused on exploring “scriptural reasoning” specifically at the interstices of comparative literature and religious studies, and especially in the broadening of its traditional scope with Chinese resources, thus aiming to deepen the intercultural, inter-lingual and inter-disciplinary dimensions of comparative literature and further expand the research scope of the International Comparative Literature Association. This review summarizes the main ideas shared and discussed at the roundtable.
