Abstract
The concept of a fair wage, when applied to the global village and international business, suggests that all working people be paid a world minimum wage (WMW). In this article, the authors take an ethical and strategic perspective of business and economics. They review three very different cases --- Canada’s once leading Eaton’s (retail) and U.S. corporations Nucor (steel) and Nike (sportswear) --- to illustrate that a singular and selfabsorbed profit motive only achieves short-term gains, while concern for people, including working conditions and wages of employees, provides a much better basis for long-term survivability. As explored later in this paper, fair wages are so important to society and business that we must set our collective wills to seeking the creative solutions that will make it happen as soon as humanly possible.
