Abstract
"El valor del concepto de persona en bioética ha sido cuestionado en los últimos años por autores como Singer, Engelhardt, Harris y otros, los cuales disuelven su consistencia ontológica reduciéndolo a meras cualidades en acto como la racionalidad y la autoconciencia. Consecuentemente, limitan enormemente los sujetos a los que puede aplicarse. Los embriones, fetos, niños, personas en coma, ancianos en fase terminal, etc. no serían personas ya que ninguno de ellos son seres plenamente auto-conscientes. En este artículo se analiza el esquema argumentativo que emplean estos autores para sostener sus afi rmaciones, se cuestiona su validez, se señalan los problemas éticos que se derivan, se reafi rma la centralidad del concepto de persona y se apuntan vías de investigación que pueden potenciar la respuesta a ese tipo de argumentación". ["The value of the concept of person in bioethics has been questioned in recent years by authors like Singer, Engelhardt, Harris and others, who water down its ontological consistency by reducing it to mere qualities «in acto» like rationality and self-conscience. Consequently, they limit enormously the subjects to which it can be applied. Embryos, foetuses, children, people in coma, the elderly in terminal phases, among others, could not be considered persons since they are not completely self-conscious beings. In this article, the author analyses the main argumentative scheme used by these authors to support their assertions, discuss its validity, points out the ethical problems that arise, reaffi rms the centrality of the concept of person and suggests ways of research which can provide suitable answers to this kind of reasoning".]
