Abstract
The Qur’an 30:41 as interpreted by Hamka and M. Quraish Shihab confirms the relationship between environmental degradation and human’s deeds. Environmental degradation is mostly caused by human transgressions in treating the nature. Benefitting recent scientific findings about environmental degradation, certain moral judgment is possible taken toward any evil against nature, beyond both exegetes’ metaphysical reason. In the existing commentaries of this verse, God’s teleological design on the nature seems only to be possible reconciled with the agency of human beings by using ‘the eyes of believers’, not those who disbelieves the existence of God. Finally, human conception about man-nature relation and also God-man relation has such influence upon the environmental destiny. All these accounts persuade us to be more eco-friendly in our present and future.
