Abstract
This paper discusses the thought of Ibn Hazm focusing on the methodology of his ijtihad. Ibn Hazm is a follower of Ẓairiyyah School who emphasizes more on the context of the reality and in some matters rejects qiyas. One of the themes of Ibn Hazm’s ijtihad that can still be considered until now is his concept on social assurance. This concept is relevant with the situation that recently happens in the middle of society. Ibn Hazm thought of this concept by interpreting liberally for the sake of society. Therefore, the author tries to relate this concept with the development of the contemporary Islamic Law and the BPJS that currently applied in Indonesia.
