Abstract
This essay discusses about the effectiveness of capital punishment for the criminals. This explores how far capital punishment is able to affect those who go against the law. Capital punishment has become one of the most heated debate among legal scholars of both in the Western and Islamic countries. This debate tries to answer whether this sort of punishment still becomes a deterrent factor for the criminals, or if not what should be the alternative one. This study refers to the concept of capital punishment in Islamic law as applied mainly by Saudi Arabia and the United State as the case. This writing argues that in the former case, it has been able to drastically reduce the rate of crime in such region.
