Abstract
Notwithstanding the predicaments of refugees, who are forced to leave their country under harsh conditions, experience from the past and present shows that even seemingly insufferable situations in the end may lead to renewed possibilities. Under propitious circumstances, “small spaces”, often involving education and training in refuge, may open up for initiatives for community development and peacebuilding.
