Abstract
"REVER: O senhor poderia nos dar uma visão geral acerca dos princípios “dogmáticos” e as fontes tradicionais relevantes (sutras, etc.) que serviram (têm servido) como referências para o encontro hindu-budista? SCHMIDT-LEUKEL: Quando falamos sobre o “encontro hindu-budista” ou “relações hindubudistas”,o primeiro ponto que é necessário esclarecer é o que se refere ao queremos dizer por “Hinduísmo”. Como designação de uma tradição religiosa, o termo é relativamente novo. Originalmente, “hindus” se referia às pessoas que viviam na Índia (ou, em um estágio mais antigo, aqueles que viviam na área do hind, isto é, o rio Indo). Foi somente sob o período colonial inglês que “Hinduísmo” foi utilizado como um termo “guarda-chuva” para a vasta diversidade de cultos religiosos, ritos, escolas filosóficas etc., em uma Índia onde não havia sikhs, muçulmanos, jainistas, etc".
