Abstract
Drawing empirical evidence from both indigenous and multinational business organizations, this study explores the roles of the business community in the war against poverty in Nigeria. It was found out that poverty alleviation programs carried out in Nigeria are aimed at addressing the peculiarity of the socio-economic development challenges of the country. This is done through the provision of health care facilities, infrastructural development, educational support etc mostly informed by the socio-cultural factors of communalism and charity. This might not necessarily reflect the popular Western standard of corporate social responsibility.
