Abstract
Christians look at the state in view of an over-all understanding of God’s work in the world. This view, however, varies from one tradition to another. The Roman Catholic Church (RCC) views the State as subordinate to the spiritual authority of the Church. While the Protestant Christianity holds the view that the State is distinct from the Church. This view is called the doctrine of the two-kingdom. There is a dualistic tension between the relationship of the Church and the State in the public sphere. This doctrine focuses on the distinction between the State and the Church. This particular view is quite relevant today to the topic on “Religion and the Public Sphere.”
