Abstract
This paper discusses the influence of popular culture on forming identity and lifestyle of youth in the age of globalization. The researcher shows that the popular culture is a culture that was created by the capitalist economic system. Even though economically they do not have independent financial resources, youth are the most consumptive ones in community, especially in terms of lifestyle. Therefore, youth become the attention of the capitalists to market their products. Character education and religious education are the solutions offered by the researcher in order to make the youth do not fall into the popular culture. In addition, NGOs such as the mass media, the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission, and others also have an important role to supervise, correct, and give a warning to the media which their programs are considered unethical and breaking the rules.
