Abstract
"O estudo do direito internacional privado consiste, basicamente, na análise dos conflitos de jurisdição e de leis no espaço. De fato, a razão maior de sua existência como ramo doutrinário específico no estudo do direito tem fundamento na convivência, nem sempre harmoniosa, de ordenamentos jurídicos distintos e no dever por vezes imposto ao aplicador do direito de observar mais de um deles na solução do caso concreto. No conflito de leis no espaço, a atuação do direito internacional privado no estabelecimento de regras para a solução de litígios parte do pressuposto da extraterritorialidade das leis e permite que, ao menos em situações excepcionais, os sistemas legais vislumbrem e até exijam a aplicação da lei estrangeira no território a eles submetido" ["The study of private international law is basically the analysis of conflicts of jurisdiction and laws in space. In fact, the biggest reason for their existence as a specific doctrinal branch on the right of the study is founded on coexistence, not always harmonious, of different legal systems and the duty sometimes imposed on the right of the applicator to observe more than one in case of solution concrete. The conflict of laws in space, the role of private international law in establish rules for resolving disputes of the extraterritoriality of the assumption of the laws and allows, at least in exceptional situations, envisage legal systems and to require the application of foreign law in the territory to them submitted"]
