Abstract
"A Comissão de Controle de Infecção Hospitalar detectou, em Hospital de porte médio, surto de infecção. Tomando as devidas providências, identificou prontamente o agente infeccioso e, com base nos estudos, indicou o antibiótico ao qual o germe é altamente sensível e que deveria ser utilizado. Solicitou de imediato sua aquisição na proporção necessária. O Diretor do Hospital, porém, considerando o elevado custo do antibiótico indicado, determinou a aquisição de outro antibiótico (custo 1/3 do indicado pela Comissão) ao qual o germe se mostrou sensível, porém não altamente sensível. Os médicos da Instituição se dividiram: a) alguns se recusaram a utilizar o antibiótico adquirido pelo Diretor do Hospital, exigindo aquele indicado pela Comissão; b) outros médicos utilizaram o antibiótico adquirido pelo Hospital, “já que não tem outro”. Criou-se um desacordo entre Comissão de Infecção Hospitalar, diretor do Hospital e os médicos. O que fazer?"
