Abstract
"El estudio aborda el texto de Santiago 5,13-18 y analiza las prácticas religiosas y las oraciones en él presentes a partir de un amplio horizonte proporcionado por la metodología de la antropología y la literatura comparadas. La oración poderosa de Santiago 5,13-18, como también la unción con el óleo y el perdón de los pecados, revelan la íntima pertenencia de las primeras comunidades cristianas a las prácticas mágico-religiosas de su tiempo. La pregunta que surge es sin embargo la siguiente: ¿cómo conciliar estas oraciones y prácticas mágicas con la fe perseverante hasta el martirio, profesada por la Carta de Santiago?" "This study approaches the text of James 5,13-18 by analyzing the religious practices and the prayers which are contained in it, on the basis of an ample horizon provided by the methodologies of anthropology and comparative literature. The powerful prayer of James 5,13-18, like the anointing with oil and the forgiveness of sins, reveals an intimate adherence, on the part of the early Christian communities, to the magico-religious practices of the time. The question which arises is the following: how to reconcile these prayers and these magical practices with the faith that perseveres unto martyrdom, which is professed in the Letter of James?"
