Abstract
The study of the changes of the modes of looking upon the positioning of women in both public and private spheres over the phases that Indian society has experienced so far is one of the most important subjects, which has significant implications on social and political transformations. The most explicit medium which has been the storehouse of the distinctive features of such changes, we can explore, is the writings of different epoch making personalities who had played definite roles in this regard. Indian English writing is an important source of the records of social, economic and political changes during the transitional periods in Indian society under the British hegemony.
