Abstract
This article discusses some beliefs in Javanese society i.e., witchcraft, wangsit, animism, dynamism and totemism. The author shows that a tribe in Banyuwangi East Java believes that witchcraft is exist and real in this world. Witchcraft is negative energy that can damage a person's life in the form of the disease, destruction of household until death. In addition, Javanese society also believes with wangsit. The term of wangsit often called as the inspiration, guidance, words, guidance, dhawuh (command), or wisik (whisper) invisible from God. Only the chosen people will be able to receive wangsit, that is, those who diligently draw closer to God, look for the essence of life, and do the laku. Laku is done by various forms such as fasting, not eating or drinking for a certain period, mutih (only eating white rice), ngrowot (only eating fruits), and others. Furthermore, Javanese people also believe in the existence of spirit strength, such as belief to animism, dynamism, and totemism.
