Abstract
This article is about how Swami Vivekananda tried to restore Hindu identity in a positive sense against the derogatory appellation as used by foreigners and oppressors particularly in the light of the growing spirit of Buddhism as a separate religion in the modern age. Here, Vivekananda's conception that modern Buddhists have moved away from the original teachings of Buddha has been emphasized. This results in the need for a reconciliation between Buddhism and Hinduism as "Hinduism cannot live without Buddhism, nor Buddhism without Hinduism".
