Abstract
"No ano de 1977, na Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Porto Alegre, tive o privilégio de participar do primeiro transplante renal daquele hospital. E que hoje conta com o maior complexo de transplante de órgãos do País. Na época, era médico residente de urologia, na enfermaria 30. Então ao retornar a Passo Fundo, em 1980, juntamente com a equipe de nefrologistas e cirurgiões vasculares, eu e o Prof. Donadussi realizamos o primeiro Transplante Renal intervivos de Passo Fundo, em 1981. E nesses mais de 25 anos, a evolução da medicina na nossa cidade foi de ponta, não deixando nada a desejar com relação aos maiores centros médicos do País. Várias equipes médicas de transplante renal aqui se formaram, tanto no Hospital São Vicente, quanto no Hospital da Cidade. E hoje, além do transplante Renal, temos o de Córnea, de Fígado e o Banco de Tecidos e musculoesquelético, para o Transplante de ossos e articulações" ["In 1977, at the Santa Casa de Misericordia de Porto Alegre, I was privileged to attend the first kidney transplant that hospital.
