Abstract
Think tanks are nonprofit policy research organizations that provide analysis and expertise with a view to influencing & manipulating policymakers. Since the early twentieth century, U.S. think tanks have played a major role in framing policy issues and providing analyses, but in the last twenty years, there has been a veritable think tank proliferation. This paper chronicles and analyzes the development of U.S. think tanks and public policy research organizations, while exploring the impact these think tanks have on American policy process.
