Abstract
"A noção de autonomia alcançou relevância central no campo da bioética médica. Em Autonomy and Trust in Bioethics, Onora O’Neill problematiza a concepção de autonomiaindividual que prevalece na bioética, identificando um chamado triunfo da autonomia, que termina por ser, em muitas situações, um mero sinônimo de consentimento informado. O’Neill aponta limites teóricos e práticos do consentimento informado, e defende uma concepção de autonomia que permita restabelecer a confiabilidadedas práticas, atividades e produtos da medicina. O objetivo deste artigo consiste em investigar se tal concepção é de fato necessária, tendo em vista que Beauchamp e Childress parecem responder ao problema do triunfo da autonomia na prática biomédica por meio de sua proposta teórica baseada em quatro princípios válidosprima facie, a saber, o princípio da autonomia, o princípio da não-maleficência, o princípio da beneficência e o princípio da justiça" ["The notion of autonomy attains central relevance within the field of medical bioethics. In Autonomy and Trust in Bioethics, Onora O’Neill questions the concept of individual autonomy that prevails within bioethics and identifies a supposed triumph of autonomy, which in many situations ends up being merely a synonym for informed consent. O’Neill points out theoretical and practical limits to informed consent and advocates a concept of autonomy that makes it possible to reestablish trust in the practices, activities and products of medicine. The aim of this article was to investigate whether this concept is in fact necessary, given that Beauchamp and Childress seem to answer the problem of the triumph of autonomy in biomedical practice through their theoretical proposal based on four prima facie valid principles, namely the principle of autonomy, the principle of non-maleficence, the principle of beneficence and the principle of justice"]
